Lower Brown Hill Creek extends from Anzac Highway to the confluence with Keswick Creek near the eastern boundary of Adelaide Airport. Sections of Lower Brown Hill Creek require upgrade to increase its capacity in order to accommodate existing peak stormwater flows from upper Brown Hill Creek, as well as flows to be diverted from Keswick Creek into lower Brown Hill Creek under the Flow Diversions project.
The Lower Brown Hill Creek upgrade is outlined in Section 10.3 of the 2016 Stormwater Management Plan.
The 3.3 kilometre length of the Lower Brown Hill Creek Upgrades has been delineated into 5 Packages and the Board is currently delivering Packages 1 to 3 over the years 2022 to 2025.
The Board is constructing a new rectangular concrete channel that is 6.8 metres wide by 2.1 metres high, offering more than double the flow capacity of the existing channel and able to contain the 1% Annual Exceedance Probability (or 1-in-100 year) design flow.
The new concrete channel will be located within a drainage corridor owned by the City of West Torrens and, as a general rule, the Board does not expect to impact private property when undertaking the channel upgrades.
Upgrades to the section of Lower Brown Hill Creek between Keswick Creek and Watson Avenue, including the Watson Avenue crossing, are complete.
Upgrades to the section of Lower Brown Hill Creek between Watson Avenue and Harvey Avenue, including the Harvey Avenue crossing, are currently being completed.
Upgrades to the section of Lower Brown Hill Creek between Harvey Avenue and Birdwood Terrace are scheduled to be undertaken in the 2024/25 financial year.
The Scheduling of Packages 1-3 of the Lower Brown Hill Creek Upgrades is shown here.
